Bouncers have been recruited by a vegetable dealer in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh to deter people from purchasing tomatoes, the price of which has significantly climbed in recent days.

“I kept overhearing individuals arguing about the price of tomatoes. People also tried to bargain in my store. So I decided to station bouncers in uniform at my cart to put an end to the ongoing fights,” Ajay Fauji told PTI.

On Akhilesh Yadav’s birthday, Fauji, a Samajwadi Party employee, had earlier cut a cake in the shape of a tomato in Varanasi.

In the state of Karnataka, there have also been reports of farmers acting seriously to stop tomato theft.

According to police, a farmer in Hassan district has reported that 3 lakh rupees worth of tomatoes had been taken from his field overnight.

The incident had been reported from the Hassanian village of Goni Somanahalli, which is close to Halebeedu.

Farmer Dharani, also known as Somashekar, reported this to Halebeedu police.

The price of a first-class tomato has risen to Rs 150 per kg, according to the police, and the robbers stole 90 boxes of tomatoes worth Rs 3 lakh.

Two acres of land were used to cultivate the tomato, and Dharanit had made the decision to sell the crop at Chikkamagalur market.

The farmers must spend the night on their farms while they alternately watch over the produce that is about to be harvested. Their predicament has gotten worse as a result of the monsoon rains. In the south Karnataka districts of Kolar and Hassan, where the crop is raised in significant amounts, this situation is frequent.
