The biggest provider of IT services in India, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has come under fire following the revelation of a bribes-for-jobs scheme.
According to a Mint investigation, a few senior executives at the IT company were accepting bribes from staffing companies in exchange for placing their applicants. According to the article, this has been happening at the organisation for many years.
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., which added 50,000 employees annually on average over the past three years, has been rocked by a scandal after the technology giant learned that a small number of senior executives who were in charge of hiring tens of thousands of key employees had compromised the hiring process by accepting bribes from staffing agencies.
The Tata group business TCS acted quickly after learning of this fraud. In addition to banning three staffing companies, the corporation fired four employees from its Resource Management Group (RMG).
When a whistleblower wrote to the company’s CEO and COO alleging that RMG’s worldwide head, ES Chakravarthy, had been collecting payments from the staffing companies involved in choosing applicants, the entire situation was exposed. After that, the IT major established a three-person team to look into the claims, which included Chief Information Security Officer Ajit Menon.
Following the probe, TCS fired four RMG employees and placed its head of recruitment on leave. Chakravarthy is not permitted to enter the workplace. Arun GK, another employee of the division, has been fired.
According to a firm official who was featured in the article, the corporation hired 300,000 workers in the previous three years, including contractors. They further conjectured that the scammers may have received commissions totaling at least Rs 100 crore.
