The two ladies were paraded in Manipur naked, and the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday formally ordered Twitter India’s Head of Public Policy to erase the video. The NCW added that the video revealed the women’s names and was a crime.

The Head of Public Policy at Twitter India has been formally ordered by the NCW to take down the video of two women being paraded naked. The NCW tweeted that this video violates the victims’ identity and is illegal.

The tweet was sent out a day after the viral footage of the two ladies being paraded by a group of guys sparked further debate. But the incident took place in May of this year.
The NCW tweeted earlier in the day, “NCW condemns the Manipur event. taking action on one’s own. The DGP Manipur has been requested to act quickly and appropriately.

Additionally, NCW president Rekha Sharma stated, “We have warned Twitter not to permit the distribution of such videos on their platform. The NCW has acknowledged the occurrence and agreed that it is upsetting. These kinds of instances are frequently coming out of Rajasthan and Manipur. I communicate regularly with the government, and the accused will face consequences.

In this instance, the Manipur Police have so far made four arrests.

The primary offender was apprehended last night at 1:30 am, according to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, according to news agency ANI.
According to Mr. Singh, “every man and every human being will condemn this act,” and they will work to have those responsible punished “to the maximum possible extent.”

“I was quite surprised when I first watched the video, and once I did, I sought further information about the incident. It took place on May 4th, but the footage surfaced 40 days later. I requested widespread search operations, and last night we detained one of the suspects, the Chief Minister added.

A complaint of kidnapping, gang rape, and murder was registered following the incident, which occurred on May 4 in Manipur’s Thoubal district, according to a senior police official.

According to a statement released on July 19 by Superintendent of Police (SP), K Meghachandra Singh, “As regards the video of two women being paraded naked by unknown armed miscreants on May 4, 2023, a case of abduction, gangrape, and murder was registered at Nongpok Sekmai Police Station (Thoubal district) against unknown armed miscreants.”

Earlier, Mr. Singh stated in a tweet that the government is considering the death penalty and that harsh action will be taken against the offenders.
