There has recently been a significant increase in online scams in India. Individuals are increasingly becoming victims of fraudsters’ schemes, resulting in the loss of their hard-earned money to expertly designed online scams.

Many people are drawn to the possibility of earning money quickly and easily through part-time work or online chores. Scammers routinely initiate contact over WhatsApp, enticing people with prospects to earn money from the comfort of their own homes.

In the most recent example, a Mumbai resident fell victim to one of these scams and lost around 18 lakh in his search of additional revenue online.

Second, avoid clicking on links sent by unknown sources, as they may direct you to harmful websites or downloads.

Third, keep your personal information safe and never provide it to unknown callers, especially if they ask for it over the phone or through text messages, especially if it concerns financial transactions.

Fourth, always double-check requests, especially those involving sensitive activities or information. If in doubt, contact the relevant organisation or individual directly through trusted means to check the request’s validity.

Finally, if you suspect a fraud or phishing attempt, take action as soon as possible. Delete the message or end the conversation without giving any personal information. To protect yourself from such scams, take a cautious and thoughtful attitude to unexpected offers, and by following these measures, you can considerably lower your risk of becoming a victim of online fraud.
