The Kutch district of Gujarat was struck by an earthquake on Monday morning with a magnitude of 4.2, according to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR).

The district officials stated that there had been no reports of casualties or property damage.

According to a website update from Gandhinagar-based ISR, the earthquake was registered at 6.38 a.m. and had an epicentre 11 km north-northeast of Dudhai hamlet in the district.

A 3.2-magnitude tremor with an epicentre 23 km east-southeast of Khavda village in the district that was detected at 5.18 a.m. preceded it, according to the ISR.

A very high risk seismic zone is present in Kutch, which is around 400 kilometres from Ahmedabad, and where low-intensity earthquakes frequently happen.

In January 2001, a catastrophic earthquake that struck the district in the Saurashtra region left 13,800 people dead and 1.67 lakh injured. Property in a number of the district’s towns and villages had suffered substantial damage as a result of the earthquake.
